In recognition of the current trends in environmental services cost control, and in anticipation of future developments in this critical area of construction cost, the Mechanical & Electrical dimension was introduced during 1999 by Nicolaou & Konnides.
The setting up of a dedicated Mechanical and Electrical section, recognized that due to the technical advances in Mechanical and Electrical installations over the previous years, the value of the services content, as a percentage of the overall costs, had increased significantly and that this trend was likely to continue.
The traditional approach of control of overall construction costs, whereby the Quantity Surveyors cost responsibility extended to the building and finishes elements only, could not continue.
On this basis, a dedicated Mechanical and Electrical section was set up to offer 100% control of construction costs under ‘one umbrella’, when requested, with all of the obvious advantages of single point responsibility and full accountability to the Client.
